［Unit Project 1］ My Family's Watch

   
My artifact is a watch. Size of it is a little big for a watch. The clock is made of iron. It is a simple silver-colored watch that only ticks down every second, minute and hour. It is in good condition and has no scratches. When the light hits it, it shines beautifully, making it like a moon.

   This watch was originally bought by my grandfather when he was young. My grandfather bought this watch by saving money from work to improve himself. My grandfather was proud of that watch. He said he always wore it. And that watch was passed down to my father when he got a job and started his career. My father always wore that watch. My father looked confident as he wore the watch. This watch has been passed down through my family. He has been watching over my family for decades. And that was the night before I took the university entrance exam.
"I'll give you this watch. It's a good luck charm for tomorrow's exam,'' my father said, holding out his watch to me.

”I'm happy, but can I have it? Isn't that something you've always cherished?” I said.

“It's alright. I feel confident when I wear this watch. You should wear it starting tomorrow.” My father said.

”Thank you!” I said. 

I receved the watch from him. It fits my father's thics arm, but I felt it a little big on my arm. I felt a greatness of my father and grand father. I was very happy and at the same time proud that my grandfathe and father cherished was now mine. The next day, I headed to the exam hall wearing this watch that my father had given me. I felt I could do everything just like Edison. I was very nervous before taking the test. However the tension of the test was relieved by the sound of the second hand ticking down to 1 second. The watch gave me power. After completing the entrance exam, I felt confident. I was accepted to all the universities I actually applied to. Thanks to this watch.  

   In recent years, young people have become less likely to wear analog watches. Even though they may be worn, digital watches and smartwatches are often seen. However, there are many situations in which such a watch cannot be used. For example, when taking university entrance exams. Digital watches and smart watches are prohibited from being used in university entrance exams to prevent cheating. Analog watches come in handy in such situations. Watches can also be used as accessories. However, in recent years, functionality has become overly important, and digital watches and smartwatches have become mainstream. I don't think it's wrong for busy modern people to seek convenience, but I also think that watches worn as a fashion item give people mental leeway. That's why I think what modern people really need is an analog clock.

　Also, watches have long been a symbol of one's economic power. Rich people often wear watches from famous brads such as Rolex. It is essentially meant to keep track of time. However, there are some people who are embarrassed to wear cheap watches. As smartphones become more widespread and the need for watch functions becomes less important, this aspect becomes clearer. Watches as accessories are nice, but you want to use them for their intended purpose.
